  2. Description • We use past tense to tell about something that happened at a specific time in the past, or to tell about something that happened more than once in the past.

  3. Forming the simple past tense • Verbs that end in –e add –ed. * Live = lived bake=baked • Verbs that end in a consonant and –y; change the y to i and add –ed. * try=tried cry=cried http://web2.uvcs.uvic.ca/elc/studyzone/330/grammar/pasted.htm

  4. Verbs that end in a vowel and a consonant that is NOT w or y; double the consonant and add –ed. *tap=tapped stop=stopped • All other verbs; add –ed. *boil=boiled call=called
