  3. Concrete Detail • 1) Is a fact , quote, or detail from the text that proves the TS. • 2) Has a transition • 3) If a quote is used, there is a lead-in • 4) If a quote is used, the page number is cited at the end of the sentence • 5) Is not the writer's opinion

  4. Commentary • 1) Explains how the CD proves the TS • 2) Works to expand on the topic sentence • 3) Is generally your interpretation of the text and the prompt • 4) avoids repetition • 5) Is the writer's opinion

  5. Conclusion • 1) Provides a final comment on the answer to the prompt • 2) avoids repetition • 3) May begin with a transition such as, "as a result..., but avoids using "In conclusion“ • 4) Leaves readers with some insight • 5) Will probably be mostly the writer's opinion, but may reference very briefly the text

  6. Conventions of Standard English • 1) Writer does not write in 1st or 2nd person • 2) Spelling is correct • 3) Punctuation is correct • 4) Writer indents • 5) Paragraph is neat and easy to read. If typed, it is double spaced.
