  1. Samsung “Solve for Tomorrow”2010 Education Contest Exploring how science and math can be used to improve your environment and your community.

  2. Phase 1 Questions: • How would you utilize this project to raise student interest in science, math or the environment? • How would you engage your students to enthusiastically participate in this project? • How could winning a technology package in this contest help your school?

  3. Our idea: We proposed a nature/fitness trail around the middle school. The trail would begin at our marquee sign in the front of the school, and go around the edge of the field in the back. Scientific markers and fitness tasks would be located at strategic locations. Once completed, a narrated video would be made of the entire trail and posted on our website as a “virtual field trip” to encourage the community to explore the importance of preserving the wetland environment around our school.

  4. Our idea involved the combined efforts of students and teachers from many academic disciplines: Math - design the trails to scale, Science - research specific areas for informational markers, Physical Education - design fitness tasks to be done at each marker, Art - design and make the markers. Photoshop – design story cards and make the video for the virtual field trip
