In general, what characterizes a partnership? • The parts aim to achieve something they could not do alone, by pooling skills and other resources. • To do this they need to: share a vision of their goals and a way of working together to achieve these goals. • This may involve a long-term formal structure or a shorter-term agreement. Partnerships: the good and the bad Benefits and opportunities Barriers and challenges • Sharingideas and resources towards common goals. • Tapping into others’ knowledge and learning from their experience. • Offering mutual support to maintain enthusiasm and commitment. • Opportunities to reach a wider audience. • Lack of trust. • Fearof losing control or a separate identity. • Failure to recognize different personality types and communication styles. • Lack of clarity on roles, responsibilities and leadership. • Timenecessary to develop relationships and feasible plans. 2. ECA Responses to Land Administration and Gender (PREM and SD) Objective: Mainstreaming gender in the Bank’s work on land and raising awareness on women’s access to land. • What worked in this partnership: • Motivated team members in PREM and SD • Adapting activities to the needs of the team/task • Exploring new approaches/ideas • Resources available ($$) • Extending the partnerships: WBI • Gender and land team just received an ECA VPU team award
