  9. Distinctions are Blurred • Many specialties do imaging • cardiology • obstetrics • gastroenterology • nephrology • emergency medicine • vascular surgery • Even more want to do imaging

  10. No specialty has the “right” to their turf – it must be protected by providing the highest quality service.

  11. Clinical Privileges • Training - RRC • Knowledge - ABMS boards • Quality Practice - ABMS boards? • TJC? • State license boards? • Malpractice claims?

  12. Continuing Medical Education • Our field changes so rapidly that remote board certification is no longer pertinent. • Life-long learning!

  13. Maintenance of Certification • ABMS mandated: • Time limited certification • MOC program • 10 year MOC cycle

  14. Life-long Learning • As medicine evolves, and imaging technology expands, radiology changes dramatically. • Our culture must embrace: • Life-long learning • Periodic evaluations • Education (CME) • Self assessment (SAMs) • Practice Improvement (PQIs) • Cognitive Exam (CE)

  15. Maintenance of Certification • Professionalism • CME and SAMs • Cognitive Exam • Practice Quality Improvement Projects (PQIs)

  16. New ABR Exam Structure • Allow training flexibility • Recognize life-long learning • First step in MOC
