With source material that is built into the structure of the sentence, the period goes outside the parentheses like so: (Author #). If it is a long quote, it goes before the parentheses: This is my very long quote - at least four lines. (Author #)

MLA requires that you use abbreviated forms of publishers’ names in the works cited list. In general omit articles; abbreviations, such as Inc. and Corp.; and words such as Publishers, Books, and Press. If the publishers name includes a person’s name, use the last name only. Finally, use standard abbreviations whenever you can – UP for University Press and P for Press, for example.

“Common knowledge” is information that is broadly known and not disputed by scholars, and can be easily located in a number of reputable sources. And no, it does not need to be cited.
What is the rule regarding a source with three or more authors?
For a source with three or more authors, include only the first author's name followed by "et al." (Latin for "and others"). Make sure that your citation matches the entry in the list of works cited .
When a quotation is longer than four typed lines of prose or three lines of verse, set it off from the text by indenting the entire quotation from the left margin. Double-space the indented quotation, and do not add extra space above or below it. Quotation marks are unnecessary when a quote has been indented.
