Areas of FocusPolicy Statements • With respect to the areas of focus policy statements, TRF notes that: • The goals are to increase efficiency in grant processing and to ensure quality of funded projects • Each policy statement is intended to represent eligible and ineligible activities • Eligible activities reflect those that Rotary clubs and districts have most often implemented • Project planning is a host club/ district‐driven process • All grant requests must comply with the policy statements related to each area of focus

  5. AREAS OF FOCUS Providing Scholarships Empowering Youth Improving Human Rights Training Leaders in the Field $16.6 million invested to date with 379 grants

  6. AREAS OF FOCUS 20,000 people are maimed or killed by land mines each year 51 million people are currently displaced by armed conflict or persecution.. 300,000 child soldiers (boys and girls under age 18) are believed to be involved in conflicts around the world.

  9. AREAS OF FOCUS 1 billion people suffer from neglected tropical diseases such as dengue fever and leprosy each year. 100 million people are pushed into poverty each year by medical costs. 1 in 6 people worldwide cannot pay for health care.

AREAS OF FOCUS 2.5 billion people lack access to improved sanitation. 1,400 children die each day from diseases caused by lack of sanitation and unsafe water. 6 hours per day is what women in some rural parts of Africa spend collecting water from a remote source. 748 million people don’t have clean drinking water

  15. AREAS OF FOCUS 6.3 million children under the age of five die each year from diseases, malnutrition, poor health care, and inadequate sanitation. 80% of maternal deaths could be prevented with access to reproductive health services and trained health care workers.

  18. AREAS OF FOCUS 57 million children worldwide are not in school 781 million people over the age of 15 — 60 percent of them women —are illiterate. 1.7 million additional teachers are needed worldwide to meet the goal of universal primary education.

  21. AREAS OF FOCUS 190 million people are funding their business endeavors through microfinance. 1.4 billion people — nearly half of them employed — live on less than $1.25 a day.
