  2. Goals • 0101.8.3 Identify front cover, back cover, table of contents, index, glossary, title page, author, and illustrator of a book.

  3. Objectives • Students will identify front cover, back cover, table of contents, index, glossary, title page, author, and illustrator of a book.

  4. Pre-assessment • Informal observation of students identifying parts of a book.

  5. Real World Application • Students will be able to use this knowledge to select appropriate books to meet their individual needs and interests.

  6. Whole Group Instruction • Teacher will model parts of a book while students identify parts on their own book. • Teacher will model how to look up and find specific items from the table of contents.

  7. Differentiated Instruction Activities

  8. Below Basic • Small group will draw a cover page for a story you have read.

  9. Basic • Small group will label title and author on a cover page they have drew.

  10. Proficient • Small group will complete a listening center form labeling title, author, and illustrator.

  11. Advanced • Small group will complete a book search using a table of contents and glossary.

  12. Re-teaching • Repetition of previous material modeled by teacher.

  13. Assessment • Students will label and find book parts per teacher directions.

  14. Closure • Students will create their own book and labeling appropriate parts.
