Recent Project • D0 Official MC Production Catalog • Problem w/ Generators Keywords in SAM: • In general the analyzer is interested in “high level” data tiers (DSTs, mDSTs): • I found that since mcp11, one can’t query SAM using generator keyword constraints… though the system was designed for this!!! • Example: you look for all mcp14 Z->ee Pythia TMBs w/ • 60 < m*(ee) <130 GeV and pT*=0 GeV • In principle: • sam translate constraints --type=mcrun --dim=“generated.generator pythia and generated.ptgt 0. and kinmassgt 60. and kinmasslt 130. and data_tier thumbnail and availability_status available and content_status good” Should returns this long list of files. Because of some bug, SAM returns 0 files!!! Réunion D0 France 26 Mai 2004
II. Recent Project • This project is designed in 3 steps: • Step1:SAM queries fill a disk area with informations on each Request ID. This step is transparent for the user. The important thing is: since these queries are based on the Request IDs, the informations concern exclusively D0 Official MC Production (not private ones that could end up in SAM). • Step 2:Some scripts loop over the disk area described above and feed this web site, which in turn enables the user to figure out in details what Official MC samples are available in SAM. • One finds in the same place, classified by reco version: • Global:ReqID, Status at MC farms, Known Bugs • Generator:Name, Process Production & Decay, Metadata, Nevents, Infos on xsect • Simulated:MinBias <Noverlay> • Reconstruted:Metadata, Nevents, link to SAM dataset • Thumbnail:Metadata, Nevents, link to SAM dataset • Automatically defined generic SAM dataset definitions: • req-id-#-reco-good • req-id-#-tmb-good Réunion D0 France 26 Mai 2004
II. Recent Project • Step 3: The last step is currently under construction. It will consists in a script allowing the user to finally create, for a given data_tier (ie: sim, reco, tmb), a SAM dataset definition of the combined (as opposed to "per request ID") MC samples he/she needs. This will also provide a log file containing the user constraints as well as the list of corresponding files. Any user who already knows all the samples he/she needs to combine will just skip step 2, create his/her dataset at step 3 and stage the files. • First version Oct 03 (S. Recent Project • Debugging the Generators Infos in the Simulation Chain • mc_runjob I/O & Generators: • November 03: • Several bugs found in mc_runjob metadata • Several bad features exposed (mc_runjob overwrites and sometimes even adds lines not present in the cardfiles) • All of these bugs and features were mc_runjob version dependent!!! • MC Farms: no record of mc_runjob version, no verification of the MinBias overlay samples • Consequences: • No tracability of the Official D0 MC Production => cannot guarantee the samples are reproducible!!! • Can’t recalculte/check cross sections w/ improved/different tools (since parton level cuts stored in the metadata are not reliable) • Bug fixing: C. Biscarat reset the mc_runjob Pythia and Herwig default values to match exactly that of these generators. Included in mc_runjob v06-02-05 and higher. • Manpower: C. B. and S. M. Current Project • Common Alpgen+Pythia Studies • http://www-d0.fnal.gov/computing/MonteCarlo/generators/common_alpgen.html • Before: • 3 Physics Groups were using Alpgen w/: • Completely different settings in terms of PDF (at Alpgen and Pythia level), renormalization-factorization scale, parton level cuts, ME-PS matching, normalization • Of course: • groups could not safely share the samples, tracability was extremely difficult • data % MC comparisons led to quite different results wo/ any satisfactory understanding • Since late february 04: • Started a Common D0 effort in the Simulation group • In late April 04 an “Official Steering Committee” was formed (11 persons from Simulation, NP, Higgs, Top and QCD groups) • Status: Common Production Script up and running (160k fully reco’d events) • Manpower: (Part of the) Steering Committee + R. Recent Project • Common Samples MC • MC mininum bias overlay: • Pythia 6.2 + CTEQ5L + "Tune A" • Poisson distributed with the conservative <Noverlay>=0.4 • No luminosity bins or profiles • Request IDs: 11248, 12003, 12004, 12005, 12006, 12007 • Fragmentation Model: • Pythia default Lund model (no Peterson fragmentation) • New default for HF quark masses: • m(t)=175 GeV (only for single or pair top events production) • m(t)=178 GeV (for all virtual NLO effects: MCFM, SUSY RGEs, PROSPINO, MC@NLO,...) • m(b)=4.75 GeV • m(c)=1.55 GeV Réunion D0 France 26 Mai 2004

III. Prospects • Official MC Production Catalog • No step 3 before a month or so • Debugging Gen. Infos in the Sim. Chain • The generator part of SAM will evolve towards a CardfilesDB • An intermediate solution might definitely fix the metadata problem • CAPS • Large scale production for W+jets is ongoing • Z+jets should start soon • I’m busy writting a common MLM matching macro • Preliminary report at Fresno • CS MC • Large scale production should start by next week • Hope to have limited interferences w/ priorities management?!?!?
