Work Based Learning • Develops your organisation • Upskills your workforce with higher level skills • Develops staff personally and professionally • Addresses demanding and dynamic changes in an organisation We do this by: • Capturing the learning already going on in the workplace, in short awards or academic degrees/ post grad awards • Giving skills to employees through reflection, inquiry and new knowledge • Assisting implementation of new learning into the workplace through project work, which can make a strategic impact

  5. Personal and Professional Development awards • Short award at all academic levels • Recognises learning from in-house training programmes • Gives academic study skills and reflective capabilities • Encourages embedding of new learning into work

Example WBL Projects: • Improving passenger safety on the Metro • Preparing a College for Investors in People • Developing Key Performance Indicators for a not-for -profit organisation • Improving support services for refugee families • Developing information leaflets for customers • Improving the Strategic Management of the River Thames • Reducing waiting times for access to tests for investigations, speedy diagnosis & treatment

Using negotiated WBL in HE • Increased focus on work • Negotiable content within empty module frameworks (flexibility) • Responsive to work place developments (currency) • Uses knowledge and training from the workplace without duplication of effort (accreditation) • Flexible deadlines allows student deferment, thereby responding to work schedules • Encourages reflection & transfer of learning into work
