  1. The American Cancer Society is the nationwide, community-based, voluntary health organization dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health problem by preventing cancer, saving lives, and diminishing suffering from cancer, through research, education, advocacy, and service.

  2. Help take steps to prevent cancer or detect it early • Help people eat right, get active, quit smoking and get screenings • Develop guidelines for recommended cancer screenings and nutrition and physical activity

  3. Cancer is becoming the number one killer throughout the world. • There are 11 million+ cancer survivors • 64,000 different treatment options • ACS is the leader in the global cancer control movement. • Cancer costs are estimated to be about $895 billion worldwide. • Resources used for treatment • Rehabilitation • Missed work days • Mortality costs • Transportation • Wigs • Etc.

  4. Volley for a Cure • Hold game in October (Breast Cancer Awareness Month) • Bradford High School team against Elk County Catholic

  5. October 7, 2010 • ECC vsBradford • Sold pink chocolate covered pretzels and cancer awareness bracelets • Recognized survivors

  6. To raise money • Hold activities • Sell more • To get more support • Advertise • Notify all cancer survivors in the area so they could have been recognized.
