HEALTH AND HYGINE IN THE COMMERCIAL AND INDUSTRIAL ESTABLISHMENT • The health and hygiene in the commercial and industrial establishment is recognized as a subject of fundamental importance. The Bangladesh Labour Act 2006 provides some provisions in sec 51-60 pertinent to health and hygiene issues of workers in Bangladesh. The provisions provided for the health and hygiene of the employers are as follows…………….
Cleanliness • All floor, ceiling and wall must be washed in certain period of time. • Every establishment must be kept clean. • No rubbish, filth or debris shall be allowed to accumulate. • The floor of work room shall be cleaned at least once in every week.
Ventilation and Temperature • Effective measures shall be undertaken to maintain adequate ventilation by the circulation of air. • Temperature in every room shall be kept comfortable. • Adequate measures should be taken to protect workers.
Dust and Fume • Prevention of the accumulation of dust and fume. • Exhausting system is required for operating internal combustion engine.
Disposal of Waste • Arrangements shall be made in every establishment for disposal of waste due to the manufacturing process. • Arrangement of sewerage system.
Artificial humidification • The water used for humidification shall be taken from a public supply or it should be effectively purified. • An inspector can order the employer to take necessary measure if needed.
Overcrowding • No work room in any establishment shall be overcrowded to an extent injurious to the health of the workers. • At least 9.5 cubic meter of space for every workers employed in a work room shall be provided.
Lighting • Sufficient and suitable lighting should be provided in every part of an establishment where worker works. • Windows and skylights must be kept clean.
Drinking Water • Arrangement shall be made to provide sufficient supply of pure drinking water. • Provision should be made for cooling water during hot weather. • Arrangement should be made for oral dehydration therapy.
Latrines and Urinals • Conveniently situated and accessible to workers all the time. • Separate for man and woman. • Adequately lighted and ventilated with water supply. • Should be clean and hygienic.
Spittoons • Convenient places shall be provided, a sufficient number of spittoons shall be maintained. • Punishable notice should be displayed in suitable place to warn about the violation of the provision.

FIRST AID APPLIANCE • Assurance of medical services for the workers. • Readily accessible during working hours. • First –Aid boxes and almirah shall be equipped with prescribed contents.
WASHING FACILITIES • Adequate facilities for washing and bathing should be provided. • Accessible during working hours. • Should be kept neat and clean.
CANTEEN • Adequate canteen shall be provided for the employers. • Balanced type of food stuff should be served. • Charges should be within workers’ reach.
SHELTERS OR REST ROOM AND LUNCH ROOM • Adequate and suitable shelters or rest rooms, and a suitable lunch room with provision for drinking water shall be arranged. • Shall be sufficiently lighted and ventilated. • Separate rest rooms for male and female workers should be provided.
ROOMS FOR CHILDREN • Such room should be adequate accommodation, neat and clean. • Adequate lighted • Conveniently accessible to mother • Soundly constructed • Adequately furnished and equipped
