Muscular Strength How STRONG Your Muscles Are How much you can lift… How MANY things you can pick up at once… According to Teen Health (1999), “By exercising to build strength, you can more easily lift heavy objects without injury or strain.” How to improve muscular strength: Do resistance exercise. Lift weights or do push ups to improve arm strength. Do squats or lunges to improve leg strength. Do crunches to improve stomach muscle strength. Created by Mrs. Klinger

Muscular Endurance How LONG your muscles can work How LONG you can carry something… How FAR you can carry the groceries without having to set them down to rest… How to improve muscular endurance: Do many repetitions. Cardio-respiratory Endurance How LONG You Can Exercise Without Feeling Breathless or Feeling Really Tired How to improve your cardio endurance: Cardio endurance is improved with AEROBIC exercise. Aerobic exercise: *body uses oxygen as a fuel *uses large muscles of the body (legs) *rhythmic and continuous (20 minutes or longer) *heart rate is in target zone *burns fat Examples: dancing, jogging, skating, step-aerobics Created by Mrs. Klinger

  10. Body Composition How Much Muscle, Fat, and Water is in the Body This is the percentage of muscle, fat and water in your body. It is important to keep a healthy balance. How to improve your body composition: Increase muscle: lift weights do strength training Decrease fat: do aerobic exercise often Increase water: drink plenty of water Created by Mrs. Klinger

  11. Stress Management How You Handle Stress in Your Life It is important to take care of yourself. Take time for relaxation. Some ways to manage stress: *Exercise! Run! Do yoga! *Talk about problems with a friend. *Listen to music. *Write in a journal. Created by Mrs. Klinger
