Today we are going to read a story written by Lynn Salem and Josie Stewart. The illustrator is Emmi Zala, she is the person who drew the pictures. The story is called Notes from Mom, and its about a little girl who gets home from school and her mom is not there because she is working, so she leaves her a note everyday. How many of you have parents who work and are not home when you arrive from school? What do you do to Be responsible? …..Talking with students….. Pages 2-3: Here you can see mom at work and the little girl getting home from school. Here you can see the note mom left for her (point to note) Pages 4 and on: Beginning on this page you can see the notes mom leaves everyday. The text is different than most books because here you can see different paper the notes are written on. The writing is also different because it is in mom’s handwriting. Above the note you can see what day of the week it is written on: On Monday she wrote… and you can see the note. This same pattern is seen for the rest of the week. On the opposite side of the note you can see the little girl doing what her mom asked her to do on the note. Page 12: On this page you can see the word isn’t – this is a new word for you, can you repeat it with me… isn’t –isn’t. Something I saw was than on Saturday, when the mom is not at work or the girl is not at school, the mom still leaves a note for her. Let’s read and see what this note says.
