  1. Motivation: How To Set A Goal By: Amanda Musgrave CG 100, Winter Term

  2. DAPPS:An easy acronym and memory device DATED ACHIEVABLE PERSONAL POSITIVE SPECIFIC

  3. DATED • Create a deadline • Decide whether it’s short term or long term Ask yourself: “Can it be achieved in a few months or a couple years?” • As deadline approaches, increase motivation • Without a deadline, you may never reach your goals. • STAY POSITIVE! 

  4. ACHIEVABLE • Goals challenge your motivation • Set goals that are out there, so you can stretch and grow to achieve them. • Ask for others for advice, and listen. • Ask yourself: “Is achieving this goal at least 50% believable to me?”

  5. PERSONAL • Make this YOUR goal, not anyone else’s • Do what you desire • Trust yourself, knowing you can do it!

  6. POSITIVE • Motivation goals encourage your energy on something you do want, rather than something you don’t • Transform negative goals to positive

  7. SPECIFIC Bad goal: “I want to do good in Math.” Good goad: “I want to get an A in Math111 and really understand the concept!” • Being specific keeps you from tricking yourself into believing that you actually achieved the goal • It helps YOU make choices that leads to positive outcomes

  8. Importance of Goals • Without goals, you won’t know what you want in life • They create positive outcomes • Goals give a sense of direction • Give off the feeling of accomplishment Thank you Karen Hill for teaching such a great, helpful CG100 class! 
