TEN TIPS FOR PARENTS TIGER FOOTBALL
Encourage your child to follow team rules regarding drinking, smoking, campus discipline, etc. More is expected from an athlete, and not everyone is strong enough to sacrifice for team membership.
Insist on good, consistent effort in the classroom. It is no coincidence that teachers are more inclined to “help those who help themselves.”
Take every opportunity to be an enthusiastic, but “classy” Tiger fan. Remember, the opposing team, coaches and fans are either our guests, or have invited us as their guests.
Support your child’s teammates and coaches. Criticism overheard by students, athletes and community members only undermines the TEAM SPIRIT concept.
Be positive with your child. Assure him of the value of simply being a part of the team.
If your child is not a star, or starter, reinforce that everyone’s role is valuable to the team.
Please help reinforce the TEAM concept by avoiding envy and jealousy of others’ accomplishments. Remember the old adage, “if you can’t say something nice, say nothing at all.”
Please respect the profession of coaching. Your child’s coaches are degreed professionals, licensed by the state and must continually pursue professional growth and education. IF YOUR CHILD LOSES CONFIDENCE IN HIS COACHES, SUCCESS IS UNLIKELY TO FOLLOW.
Encourage your child to take responsibility for his, and the team’s, actions. We all share in victories and defeats. No excuses.
Strive to stress the importance of TEAM. No one’s child will win or lose by himself. If parents, coaches and players believe in and support each other, all things are possible.
