The Cub Scout Organization The Pack… • Is a group of boys in grades 1 thru 5 and their adult leadership • Is sponsored by a Chartered Organization. • Is divided into “Dens” which consist of 6-10 boys in the same grade level, and their adult leaders. Den size can be larger if there is inadequate adult leadership.

  9. Cub Scout Organization (cont.) • Boys and Dens are organized by Rank based on age. • Ranks are… • Tiger ( 7 years old/1st grade ) • Wolf ( 8 years old/2nd grade ) • Bear ( 9 years old/3rd grade ) • Webelos ( 10 years old/4th & 5th grade ) • All Scout Activities are age-appropriate

Scouting 2010 New Program • Under Scouting 2010, all activities of both the Den and the Pack are outlined in our new handbook. • This assists the leaders in providing a consistent, fun program • The meetings are focused on giving your child the opportunity to participate in the maximum amount of activities and earn the badges necessary for advancement.

Parent Participation • Parents are the major source of Scout leadership • Scouting is volunteer led • Full support and cooperation of every parent is essential • Parents can help reduce the load for everyone by serving as den leaders or committee members • Parents should participate in and encourage their boys in their advancement

Tiger Scouts and Leadership • The Tigers need new leaders for each Den. • They will be supported by a Tiger coordinator and past Tiger leaders. • Tonight we must identify those leaders or the Tigers cannot organize. • Please think about this during the rest of the evening We will be talking to all of you about supporting the Scouts in this function. • Good Leadership for our boys is crucial to the success of the Scouting program. • Training is offered online and thru the Council. • There is a background check for all leaders.

Youth Protection • Our pack requires that each Scout have at least one Parent trained in youth protection. • This takes fifteen minutes online and teaches you how Cub and Boy Scouts protects our youth. • The course is online and available at www.myscouting.com. • There is additional information in the welcome packet

Pack Information • We are chartered by the Kincaid Scouters Association out of Kincaid Elementary School • We are part of the Foothills District of the Atlanta Area Council • The Council provides literature, tools, training, volunteer & professional guidance and a major activity schedule, including provision of camp facilities • 60-70 active scouts and 20-25 adult leaders

Pack Information (cont.) • Leadership is made up of Parent Volunteers • Unit oversight provided by Pack Committee composed of parents and Leaders. • Pack meetings are held monthly, typically on the Last Monday of the month. • Next Pack meeting is Monday, August, 29th from 6:45 – 8:00pm at the Korean Covenant Presbyterian Church (due to Kincaid construction).

  16. Time Commitment • The Scouts meet with their Dens twice a month. • Pack meetings are once a month. • Outings and additional activities will also fall within the month. • The Scouting program is a complement to sporting activities. Scouts receive achievements based on their sporting events. • Generally, leaders schedule meetings to not interfere with sports. • Every Den schedule is different.

  17. How the Pack Funds Itself • Annual Pack Dues • One annual Fundraiser (Popcorn Sales is our major source of income.) • Donations

Registration Fees • Annual Registration is $85 • This includes a 1 year subscription to Boys’ Life magazine, BSA registration, liability insurance during events, … • This covers all patches, belt loops, and awards. As well as regularly scheduled meetings. Pack events (camping, ski trip) are additional. • Make checks payable to “Pack 571” • There will be additional costs for uniforms and handbooks.

  19. Boys’ Life Magazine • Official magazine of the BSA with over 1.3 million subscribers. • Order through the Pack, and you will receive the Cub Scout edition • The cover price for Boys‘ Life is $2. When you order tonight through our Pack, you will receive Boys‘ Life at your home for free.

  20. Uniform and Equipment Needs • Shirt and Pants • Neckerchief & Slide • Cub-Scout Belt and Buckle • Cub Hat • Cub Book • Patches • Council Shoulder Patch • World Crest • Unit Number 571 • Den Patch Number • Achievements are funded by pack dues.

  21. The Process… Step 1 Complete an New Youth Application for each boy Step 2 Complete the New Adult Application for at least one parent or guardian Step 3 Present your paperwork and fees for review with the Cubmaster.
