  2. Legal Checking • Stick Checking • Player with ball, stick and hands on stick • Within 5 yards of loose ball same as above (ground or air) • Body • Player with possession or within five yards of loose ball SDCLOA December 2004

  3. Slashing • Personal Foul – 1 to 3 mins. time serving • Violent or deliberate blow • Stick on stick Okay! • Uncontrolled • Don’t beat the hands • Repeated blows • Ice pick • Baseball swing • Mild contact (love taps) not a slash SDCLOA December 2004

  4. Tripping • Personal – 1 to 3 mins. time serving • Below the waist • No coincidental contact – a trip is a trip • With possession it’s a trip, loose ball trip should be called a hold and ball awarded to offended team SDCLOA December 2004

  5. Cross Checking • Personal – time serving 1 to 3 mins. • Hands apart on stick • Force or thrust • Often to head or upper back/shoulder • Upgrade time served if severe SDCLOA December 2004

  6. Unsportsmanlike Conduct • Personal – time serving 1 to 3 mins. • Non releasable if… • Arguing or persuading official • Threats/language • Showboat (think end zone celebration in football) • Fighting (ejection) SDCLOA December 2004

  7. Unsportsmanlike Conduct 2 • Personal – time serving 1 to 3 mins. • Releasable if… • Repeats same technical foul • Failure to re-enter game (deliberate) from out of bounds • Deliberate substitution violation SDCLOA December 2004

  8. Unnecessary Roughness • Personal – 1 to 3 mins. time serving • Avoidable • Violent • Deliberate • Dead ball • Buddy pass (see Situation 5.8 C, page 53) SDCLOA December 2004

  9. Illegal Body check • Personal – 1 to 3 mins. time serving • Above shoulders • Below waist • From behind (with force) • More than 5 yards from loose ball • Player on ground • After a goal (late hit) SDCLOA December 2004

  10. Illegal Crosse • Personal – 1 to 3 mins. time serving Non-releasable • Remove Stick from game if… • Head width 6-1/2” to 10” (3 mins NR) • Head length less than 10” (3 mins. NR) • Stick length 40”-42” (3 Mins. NR) • Stick can be fixed and reenter game for Deep Pocket (1 min. NR) SDCLOA December 2004

Personal Fouls: Coda • Protect via communication & penalization • Felony vs. misdemeanor • 5 P.F.s on player = disqualification (not ejection) • Most P.F.s are 1 minute – upgrade to 2 or 3 if foul was excessive or egregious • Use Game Management to avoid Unsportsmanlike – see the volcano bubbling before it erupts… Cool it down • Keep the game safe and moving SDCLOA December 2004
