Solving Computer Problems • Explore these simple steps to solve these common computer problems.
No Sound? Double click the speaker Icon in the lower right corner to make sure sounds are not muted. Click and drag controls to adjust Double Click Speaker
When Problems Arise: • Did I install anything before problem started? • Did I change any settings before problem started?
1st Step: • REBOOT
2nd Step: • Check • Cables
Check power cable at back of the computer! Check power cable at the back of the monitor!! Power Connections
All Other Connections • Keyboard cable connections…… • Check mouse cable connections….. • Check Speaker cable connections… • Check network cable connection….. • Check TV out cable connections… Make sure all these are connected ok!!

Reporting the Problem • Tell your teacher the exact message or type of problem? • Describe any changes in the computer that have occurred. • The teacher will report the problem to Tech Help.

Common Errors Safe Mode… Your computer is not broken. Only that it was not shut down properly or something did not load properly. Solution: Shut down properly and restart the computer.
Common Errors Possible Cause: Computer is not logged into the network or has lost network connection. Solution:Reboot and/or check your network cable.
Solution: Reboot the computer Select the application not responding and click button End Task Error Messages Frozen Application Application locks up and refuses to respond
Error Messages Illegal operation Program has performed an illegal operation. Solution: Restart the application or restart the computer Once a glitch…twice a trend (call manufacturer)
Solution: Contact software publisher and see if program has update. Error Messages General Protection Fault This occurs when you are running an older program
Solution: Restart computer, which flushes out everything in memory. Error Messages Insufficient Memory Don’t have enough memory to run the program. A program may be closed but fails to relinquish its resources. This usually refers to RAM memory…not hard drive space.
Error Messages Fatal Exception Error BSOD (The Blue Screen of Death) linked to conflicts caused by duplicate DLL files (Windows Device Drivers) usually happens when running two or more programs. Solution: Shut down the computer
When a computer starts up in safe mode, what should you do? Restart the computer Report the problem
