Compliance Advisory Panel Purpose Required per CAA and Indiana Code To oversee and ensure the effectiveness of technical assistance efforts Several Indiana rules address technical assistance efforts that overlap purpose of CAP
How does IDEM protect Hoosiers and our environment? Implement Federal and State regulations that restrict chemical discharges to the environment Monitor affected facilities to ensure compliance with regulations and permits Take appropriate action when non-compliance is found Assist and encourage others to help protect Hoosiers and our Environment

Lessons for success OPPTA/CTAP must lead IDEM as “the thin edge of the wedge” with assistance activities Leveraging efforts with OAQ, OLQ, OWQ, and OLC are critical to agency mission Constant focus on the needs of the regulated community to better understand and comply with rules
Future Plans Everything we do, including compliance assistance, is a process that produces an outcome or a widget. The Challenge: Engage staff to build internal capacity to guide and implement ongoing process improvements to achieve long-term success and culture change.
Where are we at today? We are using tools to eliminate waste and increase value to stakeholders, including: Kaizen Events Process & Value Stream Mapping Standard Work P-D-C-A Reports Voice-of-customer 5 Why’s (coming soon)
