Empowerment Referes to increasing socio-economic strength of Persons With Disabilities (How money is earned and spent)
Skill Development • An ability or proficiency developed through training or experience. It may be an Art ,Trade or Technique.
Types of Skill Development in context of PWDs • Self-help Skills Development The Skills which are required for independent living according to age in the society i.e. toileting, feeding, eating, drinking, clothing, buttoning, bothing, and other activities of daily livings etc.
Communication Skills Development • It refers, how a person/ individual learn to make the sign, then must give them meaning, and finally learn gramer through which a person transfers his thaughts and communicate information to others. It may be through verbal expression, gestures, sign language or total communication.
Physical Skills Development Physical Skills Development refers gross motor skills and fine motor skills. Gross motor skills involve the coordination and control of large muscles like walking, sitting and running. Fine motor skills involve the coordination and control of small muscles and skills like holding a rattle picking up crumbs and scriblling with a pencil etc.
Cognitive Skills Development • It involves quantitative changes ( growth in amount of information) as well as qualtitative changes (Differences in the manner of thinking), most importantly, it involves children actively shaping their own intellctual abilities through interacting with the community.
Psychosocial skills development • Psychosocial skills includes our ability to appropriately experience, display and perceive emotional status and relates to the events and environment. Psychosocial skills must work together with the skills already discussed in previous slides
Vocational/Technical skills development is an aspect of education designed to prepare a persons with disability for industry, agriculture, commerce and home economics etc. It also refers training of an individual’s proficiency in relation to his future occupation, training or a systematic training experiences to upgrade his capabililties for a specific job. Tools of Skills Development during prevocational era Physical therapy, Speech therapy, Occupational therapy, Psychotherapy, Indivdual Education Plan (IEP), Specially designed furniture & Acquipment, supportive aids/ Assistive divices. Musical therapy. Sports and other recreational activities etc.
Economic Empowerment Of PWDs Through Vocational Training And Employment • Need based assessment • Trade selection • Job trainings • Job placement • Follow up • Markeeting of Products of PWDs
Job Placement • Self-employment • Corporate sector employment • Public sector employment • Private employments
