Steel Testing • Steel is probably one of the most essential materials in the record of the last millennium, and probably the most essential in the XXI millennium. • Steel is an alloy of iron and carbon, which carbon is present in a percentage less than 2%. • The steel manufacturing process begins with cast iron, removing its impurities of this, and reducing the percentage of the principal component of the alloy that is coal.

  3. Tensile testing performed on a stainless steel tensile specimen to failure using a computerized tensile test machine. • An extensometer measures yield strength at different loads. These measurements are used to compute strain.
