Unit focus 15: • Future Plans and Obligations • Learn about verb pairs: GET-IN, GET-OUT GET-ON and GET-OFF • GET-IN and GET-OUT are verb pairs to indiciate getting in and out of vehicles including cars, trains and planes • GET-ON and GET-OFF indicate getting on and off of bikes, horses, etc.
Culture Note • Last week you had a chance to write about watching CC shows • This week you will learn more about CC. • Caption s did not start until 1950s • Deaf people had to subscribe to government sponsored programs of captioned films (like renting except free) • Starting with 16-mm films offered to deaf groups and often would tour around the country • 1980, film popularly declined.. Making TV in demand • Started with a decoder box that hooks up to the TV making technology that makes caption visible with a decoder build into a TV is turned on. • Currently ALL TV made prior to 1990 are have built-in chips to allow captioning. Nearly every show is currently captioned.
