The holy book • The Guru Granth Sahib or AdiGranth is the religious text of Sikhism. • It was compiled and composed during the period of Sikh gurus, from 1469 to 1708. It’s a collection of hymns describing the qualities of God and why one should meditate on God's name.
Homosexuality in the holy book • The Sikh marriage is not just a physical and legal relationship but it’s a holy union between two souls where physically they appear as two individual bodies but are united as one. In Sikhism, the soul is seen as genderless, and the appearance of human beings (man, woman) is temporary • The Sikh holy book, the Guru Granth Sahib, doesn’t explicitly mention homosexuality.
- Traditional for parents to pick partner • According to Sikhism, parents of both boy and girl look for a suitable match for their son or daughter. They then introduce them and if the boy and girl like each other, they get married otherwise they keep looking. • Sikhs can choose their own partners, but it’s considered better when the partner is chosen with the consent of the parents.
Marriage inside the religion • It’s important that Sikhs choose a partner with similar belief system • Marriage with a Sikh is preferred because God, spirituality, and religion are major part of one’s life.
