6. Population • All the members of one species in an area
7. Abiotic factor A non living part of an ecosystem
8. Biotic factor • A living part of an ecosystem
9. community • all living things in an ecosystem
10. Habitat the place where a plant or animal naturally lives and grows
11. niche • The role of an organism in a community
12. Biome • One of Earth’s largest ecosystems with its own kind of climate, soil, plants, and animals. There are smaller ecosystems within the Biomes.
13. grassland • A biome where grasses, not trees are the main plant life. Prairies are one kind of grassland
14. Taiga • A cool forest biome of conifers in the upper northern hemisphere
15. desert • A sandy or rocky biome with little precipitation and little plant life
16. Deciduous Forest • A forest biome with many kinds of trees that lose their leaves each autumn. We live in this type of Biome.
17. Tropical Rain Forest • A hot biome near the Equator with much rainfall and a wide variety of life
18. Tundra • A rolling plain with low temperatures and long winters. Only small plants. Covered with permafrost.
19. Coniferous Forest • Coniferous forests consist mostly of conifers, trees that grow needles instead of leaves, and cones instead of flowers. Conifers tend to be evergreen, that is, they bear needles all year long. These adaptations help conifers survive in areas that are very cold or dry. Some of the more common conifers are spruces, pines, and firs.
20. Aquatic/Marine • Body of water biome. Includes salt water and freshwater areas.

26. wetlands • A low area where the land is saturated with water. Wetlands generally include swamps, marshes, and bogs.
27. marsh • Low-lying wet land with grassy vegetation
28. pond • A fairly small body of still water.
29. lake • A large body of water surrounded by land
30. Terrestrial • A system of plants, animals, nutrients and elements, and the interactions between them, that is found on the land
31. drifters • Something that continually moves from place to place • Example: Plankton : are any organisms that live in the water and are incapable of swimming against a current, so they drift
32. swimmers • To move through water by means of the limbs, fins, or tail.
33. crawlers • An organism that crawls on the floor surface to move about an area
34. anchored • To be attached to the bottom and not able to move around freely
