Student Activities Fee Muhammad H. Sarwar
The SAF Statement “The Student Activities Budget Committee at Rose Hill is alarmed by the continued disparity in the amount of funds requested by clubs each semester and the amount available to fulfill their requests. In Fall 2012, Spring 2013, and Fall 2013, the Committee was able to fund only 42%, 46%, and 55% of requests by non-referendum clubs and organizations, respectively. The current Student Activities Fee of $120 per semester has been in place since 2003. Over the last ten years, tuition has increased 87% while the Fee has remained flat at $120. Over the same period, the average annual Consumer Price Index has increased 25%, making the task of keeping up with prices that much harder. In order to better fulfill the goal of promoting the educational and personal development of Fordham students, the Committee requests the Fordham community to consider raising the Student Activities Fee. We call for a referendum to be held posing the following question to the undergraduate students at Rose Hill: Are you in favor of increasing the Student Activities Fee by $15 to $135, to be in effect starting Fall 2014?”
