History The Holy Grail is portrayed as something holy and commonly refers to the cup where Jesus’s blood was carried. The most popular tale in regards to the Holy Grail, was the popular story of King Authurand his Knights of the Round Table. The king meets with his most trusted knight and friend, Lancelot, when he tells the king about the Holy Grail. King Authurbecame interested and sent the Knights of the Round Table on a quest for the Grail. Many of the King's knights never returned and those who did never witnessed the Holy Grail. Three knights sought out the Grail once more in which only one knight returned back to Camelot to tell King Authurwhat had happened. After revealing itself to the three knights, the Holy Grail returned back to heaven out of reach of men.
Present Day Meaning * A “Holy Grail” is an object that is desirable and is constantly sought after and attainable through trials and a long, difficult quest. Example 1-For teams in the National Hockey League, the Stanley cup is the equivalent of the Holy Grail. Example 2- Many businesses, corporates and professionals go in search for the holy grail of marketing. Example 3- While Safari and Firefox are good browsers, Internet Explorer is the holy grail of computers.
The Holy Grail in Media Today * Although most tales of the Holy Grail are long forgotten in history, retellings of the famous tale are told today through various books, movies, tv shows, video games, and even cartoons.
