  1. Incoming 8th Grade Schedulingfor the 2014-2015 school year

  2. Login/Firefox • Login in to the computer as: • hmslab; hmslab • Double-click on the Firefox icon on your desktop • Click: • Next • Next • Finish • Yes • Once it’s open go to: • www.frenship.us

  3. Course Sheets • Fill in the top box of your course sheet – write neatly. • If your address has changed or is incorrect, mark it out and write your new/correct address.

  4. P.E./Competitive Sports • If you have already had 2 years of a P.E. or competitive sports class, these courses are Optional. • If you have not had 2 years, you must select one of these. • Only choose ONE if applicable.

  5. Elective Information Do NOT start filling out the next section on your course sheet yet. • 8th graders will get 3 total electives. • Fine Arts Requirement: All students are required to take one year of fine arts (art/band/choir/theatre) during middle school. If you have not taken one of these courses, you will need to select a fine arts course today for next year. • Elective course descriptions can be found on the back side of the course sheet, and there are video descriptions on the HMS website under the Parent and Student tabs. • All electives are offered on a limited basis due to class size restrictions. • Electives that require an application and selection process: 1. Broadcast Media I & II (school news; BM II applicants should currently be in BM I) 2. Honors Art (available if you have taken art before) 3. Yearbook (should enjoy writing/technology/photography and be able to commit some time outside of the school day to attend school events) 4. Student Assistant (office or library aide) • Applications are due to Mrs. Schneider (located in Ms. Gipson’s old office) by Friday, March 14th(the Friday before Spring Break).

  6. Fine Arts/Other Electives • Rank your top six choices andnumber them 1 through 6with “1” being your first choice on your course sheet now. • If you are selected for an application elective, your schedule will be changed this summer. We will use the rankings you put down on this course sheet to determine which class to drop for application electives OR if your 1st choice elective is too full.

  7. Required & Pre-AP Courses • 8th graders are required to take the following core classes: 1. ELAR (English Language Arts & Reading) 2. Math 3. Science 4. Social Studies • These core classes have already been selected for you. • Pre-AP coursesfor 8th graders are available for all core classes listed above. • These placements will be made at the end of the school year. • They will be determined by the placement rubric (placement test scores, STAAR scores, unit assessment averages, teacher recommendations), academic departments, and administration.

  8. Signatures • Please sign and date your course sheet now. • Take this home tonight and have your parent/guardian sign and date it. • Turn it in to your social studies teacher by this Friday. • If we do not get your signed course sheet back, we will pick your electives for you.

  9. Selecting Courses in Skyward • Go to the HMS homepage and click on the Skywardicon. • Login in to Skyward. • -Your login ID is your campus ID number (located on your course sheet). • -Use the password you have created for your account.

  10. Selecting Courses in Skyward • If a screen pops-up like the one below, click Later. • Then click Open Student Access.

  12. Selecting Courses in Skyward • Click on the Update Requests tab.

Selecting PE/Sports Courses in Skyward • You will notice that your core classes are already selected, and you have 4 total requested. • If you chose a P.E./Sports class on your course sheet, click on that now. It will highlight that row in blue. • Then click Add Course. You should now have 5 courses selected.

  14. Selecting Fine Arts/Other Electives • Click on your #1 ranked course on your course sheet and then Add Course. • Now add your #2 ranked course on your course sheet. • *Add your #3 course only if you did not already select a P.E./Sports course. • You should now have 7 total courses requested.

  15. Selecting Alternates • Click on the Alternates tab. • If you chose a P.E./Sports course, add your #3 and #4 courses (in that order). • If you did notchoose a P.E./Sports course, add your #4 and #5 courses (in that order).

  16. Completion • You should now have 7 requested/scheduled courses and 2 alternates selected. • If this is the case, you are done and can logout of Skyward in the top right hand corner. • Click Exit; it should take you back to the login screen. Leave it here.

  17. Reminders • Take your course sheet home and get it signed; they are due Friday to your social studies teacher. • This is not your final schedule (just course requests). • Although we try to give you your top choices, you are not guaranteed to get the classes you selected today. That is why we have you rank several choices. • Final schedules will be handed out the first day of school next year.

  18. Applications • If you want an application, please come get one at this time. 1. Broadcast Media I & II (school news; BM II applicants should currently be in BM I) 2.
