  1. Incoming 6th Grade Schedulingfor the 2014-2015 school year

Login to Skyward • Go to the HMS homepage and click on the Skywardicon. • Login in to Skyward. • -Your login ID is your campus ID number (located on your course sheet). • -Use the password you have created for your account. • Leave this screen open. We are done with the computer for right now.

  3. Course Sheets • The needed information is filled out for you. • Look at the address section. If it has changed or is incorrect, mark it out and write your new/correct address. • Write in your parent’s phone number (the number they use most). Verify your address write in parent’s number

  4. Course Sheets • Select your P.E. or Sports class. • Only choose ONE. • Put a check mark by the appropriate class (boys or girls).

  5. Elective Information Please do NOT start filling out the next section on your course sheet yet. • 6th graders will get ONE elective besides their P.E./Sports elective for a total of 2. • Fine Arts Requirement: All students are required to take one year of fine arts (art/band/choir) during middle school, and we suggest you take this your 6th grade year. • Elective course descriptions can be found on the back side of the course sheet, and there are video descriptions on the HMS website under the Parent and Student tabs. • All electives are offered on a limited basis due to class size restrictions.

  6. Fine Arts/Other Electives • Rank your top three choices andnumber them 1 through 3with “1” being your first choice on your course sheet now. • We will use the rankings you put down on this course sheet to determine which class to drop if your 1st choice elective is too full or if your schedule does not work with one of your choices.

  7. Required & Pre-AP Courses • 6th graders are required to take the following core classes: 1. ELAR (English Language Arts and Reading): ELAR isdouble-blocked, meaning you will have it twice a day with the same teacher. It counts for 2 of your 7 classes. So when you get your schedule in August and see ELAR on it twice, remember it is not a mistake! 2. Math 3. Science 4. Social Studies • These core classes have already been selected for you. • GT Reading and Pre-AP math are available for 6th graders. • These placements will be made at the end of the school year. • Placement in Pre-AP Math will be determined based on an end of year placement exam, unit assessments from 5th grade, 5th grade report cards, and STAAR assessments. • Students who are in the Gifted and Talented program will be placed in GT reading.

  8. Signatures • Please sign and date your course sheet now. • Take this home tonight and have your parent/guardian sign and date it. • Turn it in to your homeroom teacher by this Friday. • If we do not get your signed course sheet back, we will pick your electives for you.

  9. Selecting Courses in Skyward • We will now do the online selection in Skyward. • If a screen pops-up like the one below, click Later. • Then click Open Student Access.

  11. Selecting Courses in Skyward • Click on the drop-down arrow and select your middle school. • Even if it is not the middle school you plan on attending, go ahead and select it anyway.

  12. Selecting Courses in Skyward • Click on the Update Requests tab.

Selecting PE/Sports Courses in Skyward • You will notice that your core classes are already selected, and you have 4total requested (in the section on the right side). • Click on the P.E./Sports class you selected on your course sheet. It will highlight that row in blue. • Then click Add Course. You should now have 5 courses selected.

  14. Selecting Fine Arts/Other Electives • Click on your #1 ranked course on your course sheet and then Add Course. • You should now have 6 total courses requested.

  15. Selecting Alternates • Click on the Alternatestab. • Click on the #2 ranked elective on your course sheet; click add course. • Click on the #3 ranked elective on your course sheet; click add course.

  16. Completion • You should now have 6 requested/scheduled courses and 2 alternates selected. • If this is the case, you are done and can logout of Skyward in the top right hand corner.

  17. Reminders • Take your course sheet home and get it signed; they are due Friday to your home room teacher. • This is not your final schedule (just course requests). • Although we try to give you your top choices, you are not guaranteed to get the classes you selected today. That is why we have you rank several choices. • Final schedules will be handed out the first day of school next year.
