It’s that time of the year! • Elections for 9th grade officers are coming! • When is this happening? • Why does this affect me? • What are my responsibilities? • How do I vote? • Who will be running?
When will elections take place? • Campaigns: May 20 through May 28 • Meet and Greet will be the same week • Speeches: during advisory May 29 • Voting: homeroom on May 30 • Elected officers will be announced on Friday, May 31.
Why does this affect me? • Your student council officers are responsible for a variety of events: • Freshman formal • Wildcat Focus orientation • Decorating for homecoming • Raising funds for prom and your senior banquet • Your legacy gift to the district • And a variety of other events that make your high school experience more meaningful!
What are my responsibilities? • Conduct expectations • Respect tangible materials • No social media (for candidates OR their friends/classmates) • Respect candidates • Respect for the role you play in this process
What should I consider when I vote? • 1. Seriousness of the candidate: are they running for the right reasons? • 2. Consider the candidate’s ideas: what do they actually bring to the table? Why do they stand out? • 3. Is the candidate reliable? • 4. Consider treatment of all peers: do you want someone who is not respected by all to be running your class?
What should I consider when I vote? • 5. Work ethic: is this a person that's going to do the best possible job for you? • 6. Does the candidate set the standard: your class is entering the high school saying these are the people who represent are class. Are they who want the high school to perceive your class to be?
What should I consider when I vote? • 7. Do they have school spirit? Is this a person who truly cares about Mayfield and its success? • 8. Can the candidate work with others? • This is NOT a popularity contest. Consider those items for which these individuals are responsible.
How do I vote? • Homeroom teachers will have slips the morning of May 30, 2013. • Each student may vote only once; any deviation could result in invalid votes • Slips will be collected and turned into the office, where they will be counted • If you are absent, you do not vote. • Officers will be announced May 31, 2013 on the morning announcements.
