Vaccines • The FDA puts vaccines through a lot of testing to make sure they’re safe • They test them at the Center for Biologics Evaluation and Research (CBER)
Biologics • The FDA regulates the type of research that goes on • They’re teaching the people at the CBER about the efficiency of biological products
Blood • FDA inspects all blood industries at least every two years • They also require all blood centers to keep lists of “unsuitable” donors • Blood and blood products can carry risks of infectious agents, so the FDA is driving that to the lowest risk as possible.
Why do we need Gardasil? • 12,000 women are diagnosed with cervical cancer every year • Around one third die • 6.4 million Americans become infected with HPV
