  2. Sumerian Empire • The en of Sumer is Gilgamesh • Sumerians created cuneiform • Sumerians developed a calendar • Sumerians invented the potter’s wheel

  3. Akkadian Empire • The Sumerians lost control over their city-states and their civilization fell • The empire was ruled from the capital of Akkad • Sargon ruled the Akkadian Empire for 56 years • After his death, the empire lasted more than 200 years

  4. Babylonian Empire • The kings of Babylon looked for new ways to govern their empire • The new laws were know as the Code of Hammurabi • The Code of Hammurabi consisted of 282 laws • Many laws warned law breakers of what to expect

  5. Kassitesand Hittites • The Kassites tried to take over Babylonian for many years • The Kassites had an advanced culture • The Hittites robbed the Kassites of its riches • When the Hittites left with the stolen treasure from Kassites

  6. Assyrian Empire • The people of Assur learned warfare or skill of war • This helped the Assyrians gain an empire • They leaned to make iron weapons and to use chariots • These weapons helped make the Assyrian army a fearsome enemy

  7. Neo Babylonian Empire • Nebuchadnezzar was one of the best-known king • From 605 B.C., he ruled for 44 years • After Nebuchadnezzar, his son, AwilMarduk, ruled for just a short time • The Neo-Babylonian Empire was stretched beyond Mesopotamia

  8. Summary Sumerian was one of the world’s first civilizations formed. Sargon ruled Akkadian Empire for 56 years. The kings of Babylon looked for new ways to govern their empire. When the Hittites left with their stolen treasure from the Kassites. The people of Assur learned warfare form their neighbor to the west, the Hittites. Nebuchadnezzar was one of the Neo Babylonian Empire’s best-known king.
