    2. National interagency leadership moved forward with implementing the first 2 NIMO teams to: Help bring about change in a rapidly evolving wildland fire world. Free critical resources by managing long-term incidents Develop a more effective and efficient fire management model for complex fires

    3. Introduction to NIMO “The success of NIMO is predicated on two imperative actions: 1) Planning and executing a larger, more aggressive vegetative management program and 2) implementing the nine key recommendations….” From NIMO Implementation plan, 2005

NIMO implementation team nine key recommendations: Improve capacity and capability Develop more Type 3 organizations Streamline training and qualifications Assist NMAC in Type 1 IMT management Identify change to legal authorities Develop non-traditional partnerships Improve emergency hiring practices Standardize contracts Develop a model for management of complex incidents

    5. NIMO organization: Two fulltime seven-person Incident Management Teams hired in FY06 A NIMO coordinator position early FY07 Additional teams may be added NIMO IMTs serve as force multipliers to support wildland fire program initiatives

    6. NIMO Incident Assignments Two week rotation separate from the current Type 1 teams Staff incidents from the pool of all available personnel Focus on assignments that integrate change in management philosophy

    7. Potential Niche for NIMO Teams Fires of national significance International assignments All-hazard assignments National/regional operations cell Large, complex planned events Large scale prescribed fire

    8. NIMO projects Assist and support various groups on wildland fire related projects. NIMO Coordinator will work with NMAC and NIMO IC’s to accept and prioritize proposed projects from any wildland agency or state partner.

    9. NIMO Current Projects NMAC Strategic Decision and Business Practices Rollout of Southern Wildfire Risk Assessment National Type 1 IMT meeting 2007 F&A Operations Action Plan

    10. NIMO Current Projects (Cont.) Appropriate Management Response Expand support from large urban structural departments. Expand number of Type 3 organizations Training Support (S-520, S-620, etc)
