  1. HYDROTHERAPYLECTURE 5 TECHNIQUES OF EX. IN WATER AND THERAPEUTIC SWIMMING Hydrogymnastics as a systematic form of ex. In water begain in the early part of the twentieth century. The uniqueness of water lies mainly in the presence of buoyancy. Buoyancy supports the body and diminishes the effects of gravity. An advantage accouring from that it induces relaxation and relieves pain more than on the ground where the weightlessness allows a greater freedom of movements. Other factors are cohesion, viscosity, turbulence and friction.

  2. Therapeutic Effects Of Ex. In Water:- The therapeutic effects of ex. In water have been well documented. It is recognised that an increase in muscle power and endurance, the mobilizing of joints, the reduction of spasticity, relaxation, improvements in balance and coordination, functional activity and recreation are among the most important of these effects.

  3. Techniques Of Ex. In Water:- There are a number of techniques of ex. In water available to the Ph.Th. These include :- *Buoyancy assisted, supportd, resisted, ex. *Bad Ragaz patterns. *Hold- relax techniques. *Stabilizations. *Repeated contractions. *Breathing ex. *Spinal mobilizations. *Hydrodynamic ex.

  4. THERAPEUTIC SWIMMING:- In some countries hydrotherapy is considered to be a hydrotherapeutic treatment carried out in water by Ph. Th. Reserchers suggest that therapeutic water programmes supervised by trained Ph. Th.,s. may be designed to cover ex. In water, the selection of swimming stokes is vitally important. This means that not only must the Ph.Th. understand the patient,s condition and mobility in detail, but also have knowledge of the muscle groups involved throughout the body for each individual.

  5. TYPES OF HYDROTHERAPEUTIC TECHNIQUIES Including:- - Whirlpool Bath. - Hubbard Tank. - Contrast Baths. - Douches.

  6. *Whirlpool Bath:- is essential a local bath for the extremities, with the limb submerged in rapidly circulation water. It can be created in any size tube or tank, making it possible to immerse the whole body for hydromassage effect. *Hubbard Tank:- is a large bath used for total body immersion of an individual patient, and is usually made of plastic or stainless steel. It looks like a figure of 8 or a key hole for practical use allowing the therapist treatment without having to enter the water.

  7. Contrast Baths:- are an alternative method of applying heat with a certain amount of control to the normal body temperature- regulating mechanism. There is alternate immersion of the part in hot and cold water producing marked hyperemia of the skin. *Douches:- a douche is an application of water by an apparatus that sprayas water upon the surface of the body or any body part. The effects of douches depend on the area treated, the temperature and the pressure of the water, and the duration of the treatment.
