2. Introduction Everyone looks at America as the place of dreams, hope and inspiration, but its so much more than dreaming. When people migrate to America they want to experience life, under their terms without restrictions. It's what makes America a place if opportunity, a place of voice.

Diversity • What Is It? • Diversity is differing of elements, variety of people in groups. • How does it Relate to the Text? • In relation to “Becoming America”, Many of the stories relate to moving into a New country. America for man means freedom and choices. To have an opportunity to live the way that people choose.

5. “Children Of Loneliness” • The college student Rachel has a problem with how her parents conduct themselves at a dinner table. She reacted to them sucking on bones and not having table manners. • She soon had an out burst and her familiarity with American Culture and her parents only respecting Jewish Traditions. • She grew up in America so the traditional ways that they value she sees flaws.

6. Mans struggle with Divinity • Definition: Mans Struggle with divinity involves the relationship of humans trying to understand and find peace with God but it becomes a struggle.

8. Getting to the point…. • This poem is a description about life and how people should view it in another way then they do already. Not always being so hasty and slowing down and taking time to appreciate and value life. The lack of appreciation that people have for nature could be one of our problems. So the author made the connection by using an example everyone is familiar with, which is God and faith.

9. Literary Criticism: Gender and Queer Theory in relation to Diversity • This theory is based on the studies of human sexuality in relation to power, population and culture • This theory introduces a break down between male and female. • Roles of men and women have changed not only focusing on who’s the bread winner in the home but the differences between masculine and feminine actions are changing as well. • Men and women are showing actions of the opposite sex and not only that affect how teachers teach in the classroom but with everyday jobs and society as a whole.

10. Between Cultures • Explanation: Overall between cultures is the struggle of belonging. Coming into a new community and realizes trying to find acceptance but not really belonging to either because of your back ground. • What is accepted in one culture may be offensive in another. • Relating to others can be difficult if there is no common interest and conflicting interest.

12. 10 steps for Internationalizing Education at CSN • Determine what interest people the most • Get different people involved example: Gender • Race Class Age Ethnicity • Ask questions to the public • Share ideas that could possibly have successful results • Create a plan that works • Spread the word • Plan events • Make sure everyone at is involved is focused on the goal • Keep record of feedback ( positive and negative ) • Maintain keeping the plan on track

13. Conclusion In publishing stories as well as in real life it can be difficult to find ones self or even to find a group to belong to. Identity and expression is what everyone is looking for. To overcome obstacles and accept one for who they are and what they believe in.
