  16. Meteorologist • Start out as a entry level meteorologist • Great training program • State of the art technology to issue warnings to save lives and property • 9-15 positions per office • Upward mobility into management positions

  17. Hydrologist • Degree in hydrology or meteorology • Coordinates with other agencies • Forecast levels of rivers, streams, dams etc. • Hydrological modeling • Positions available in some forecast offices, or at 13 River Forecast Centers around the US, and at national and regional headquarters

  19. NWS Career Path Budgets are very tight and getting tighter. If you want to work for the NWS in the future, you MUST volunteer or get into the SCEP program (or it’s new replacement). Jobs are simply too difficult to obtain otherwise. If you apply on USAjobs.com, ask a current NWS employee to help you. You should be on the offensive with your career! Working for the NWS inevitably involves rotating shift work.

  31. The WR DAC Mentoring Program • WR DAC Mentoring Program started 4 years ago • To give guidance to students as they work towards their degrees in meteorology or hydrology

  32. The WR DAC Mentoring Program at WFO Sacramento • Have 3-4 group meetings a year: • ~Once a quarter meeting and most likely dinner • One end of the year wrap up • Individual time commitment to mentor/mentee relationship • Job shadowing days • Outreach days • Possible field trip
