Student Organization Recognition • Only recognized student organizations may apply for either immediate funds or the budgetary process. • To become a recognized student organization, visit: www.uni.edu/studentorgs/nisg/ studentorgs/apply
Immediate Funds • Can be applied for throughout the school year by student organizations who need funding for events not budgeted, etc. • Contingency Fund • Pepsi Fund • Diversity Matters • Intercollegiate Academic Fund • Applications and Guidelines available on the NISG website. www.uni.edu/nisg/funding • Our preference is to have student organizations apply for funding through the budgetary process.
Budgetary Process • Every spring semester, NISG holds a budgetary process where student organizations can request monies for multiple events or large sums of monies for their student organization to use for the upcoming school year. • Funds will not be available until July 1st
How to apply? • Application available online only on the NISG website. www.uni.edu/nisg/funding • Thoroughly read through the funding guidelines. • Complete the application in full. • Utilize the attached excel sheet to calculate requests. • Sign up for a hearing time in the Student Involvement Center.
What is funded? (shortlist) • Developmental/Educational Activities and events • Programming that provides a service to the student body • Publicity for programs which are open and of interest to the entire student body • Printing directly related to programs and activities • Funding for speakers
What is not funded? (shortlist) • Recruitment for your organization • Food & other related items • Organizations that receive funding from the Student Services Fee • Activities directly related to job-seeking or that are not applicable to all students • Fundraisers directly • Events that are intended to fulfill course requirements • Off-campus events • Travel
Helpful hints… • Once the application is started, it must be completed. • The more information the better. • All advertising allocations were capped to $50 not including Northern Iowan ads. • Unnamed speakers/artists will not be funded, but deferred for you to re-apply • The committee does not fund food and/or beverages. (Pepsi Fund)
Dates to know… • January 30th, 5 p.m. – Applications available online • February 21st, 5 p.m. – Applications are DUE • NO LATE APPLICATIONS ACCEPTED • February 24th-28th – Hearing Sign-up available – Student Involvement Center • March 3-7, Budget Hearings • Notification by email of funding allocations during the week of April 7th– 11th
Budget Hearings • Reasons for Hearings: • Gives the organizations an opportunity to provide supplemental information to the committee. • Allows the committee to ask any clarifying questions of the events/activities. • Failure to attend a hearing will automatically deny funding to the student organization. • 10 minutes slot time per organization • Meetings are informal. • Attire is casual.
