Receiver Performance Sensitivity Selectivity Dynamic Range Introduction • Receiver Tests in IS-98A • Sensitivity and Dynamic Range • Single Tone Desensitization • Two Tone Intermodulation Spurious Rejection
Sensitivity • The minimum signal level that the system can detect with acceptable QoS (Quality of Service) – MDS (Minimum Detectable Signal)
Selectivity • Receiver’s ability to detect our signal in presence of interferers, noise and etc • Mostly affected by IF Filter’s characteristics (Out band attenuation)
Dynamic Range • The ratio of the maximum input level that the circuit can tolerate to the minimum input level(MDS) • BDR – The ratio of maximum input level that does not desensitize system to MDS • SFDR – The ratio of maximum input level in a two-tone test for which the third order IM products do not exeed the noise floor
IS-98-A Sensitivity & Dynamic Range • Sensitivity Test • Confirms cell coverage at the far side from the base station • Noise components • Thermal noise • Leakage noise from Tx • Receiver added noise • NF, dynamic range are figured out
Maximum Input Level (Dynamic Range) Tests • Confirms cell coverage at the near side from the base station • Noise components • Thermal noise • Leakage noise from Tx • Receiver added noise • NF, dynamic range are figured out • Situation is similar to that of sensitivity test
FER vs. Eb/Nt • Test conditions require maximum FER, which corresponds to minimum Eb/Nt • Test Conditions • The FER in each test shall not exceed 0.005 with 95% confidence corresponds to Eb/Nt = 4.5 • And SNR may be 4.5 +15.6 – 21 = 0.9dB in this case
IS-98-A Single Tone Desensitization • Single Tone/Blocking Tests • Confirms cell coverage at the far side from the base station when other transmitter exists • Noise components • Noise components in Sensitivity tests • Filtered blocker • Reciprocal mixing products • Phase noise, selectivity are figured out
Test Conditions • The FER in each test shall not exceed 0.01 with 95% confidence corresponds to Eb/Nt = 4.3 • Situation
IS-98-A Intermodulation Spurious Response • Intermodulation Rejection Characteristic Tests • Confirms cell coverage at the far side from the base station when two or more interfering signals • Noise components • Noise components in single tone/blocking tests • Intermodulation product • IP3, phase noise, selectivity are figured out
Test Conditions • The FER in each test shall not exceed 0.01 with 95% confidence corresponds to Eb/Nt = 4.3 • Situation
