  1. 3rd. Semester Art History of Art Research Assignment “Premodern Islamic Civilisation” Due date: Week 14 of Spring 2014 semester General Timeline : c 600 to 1500 AD General geographic / political area considered : Islamic World ( as discussed in class)

  2. As discussed in previous classes you are to hand in your research area/theme/timeline/ Islamicate map by Wednesday 9th. April 2014 in class at 8:30am with an individual statement and rough draft / chosen topic / theme with a sketch of your area of interest (Refer to the earlier handout uploaded last week. Each of you will select a specific area of study (as per the handout discussed in class last week 26 Mar ‘14), within a specific time line and geographical area of the Islamicate. Your Thesis Statement should reflect the timeline and geographic area you are considering with a sketch of the image/s and a map reflecting the Islamicate for your chosen topic/theme/personality of a thinker, philosopher, scientist, mathemetician etc. • You are required to submit all written assignments as per the following format: • Written paper • Printed on white A4 sheet • Margins: 1 “ (all sides) • Double Spaced • Font type: Times New Roman • Font size: 12 • Insert page numbers • Name, Department, Semester, Date and Word Count all written at the back of the last page • Heading /Appropriate to your area of research should be your Paper Title • Bibliography (as per standardised IVS Referencing Guide handout) to be included on the end page • Citations, Foot notes, direct quotations to be appropriately included as per IVS standardisedReferencing Guide • Islamicate map • Drawn on white A2 (40cms x 70cms) size paper (as per examples shown in class) as per your chosen topic / theme … Any submissions not following the above will not be marked and given an ‘E’ grade
