  6. Why playhouse in the park is of interest to us?

  7. The industry

  8. Major competitors? Netflix vs. You going to see a play • Whether you go to the aronoff center, Cincinnati ballet, symphony, Cincinnati theater, etc. as a theatre industry they are happy to see you not sitting at home playing video games, watching scandal on Netflix, or napping because you don’t have anything better to do. • The real competitor is our list of things to do and if seeing a play isn’t on them then none of the theatres will survive.

  9. The difference between playhouse in the park and other theatre based industries: • First, it is a production company. • Second, they bring the best actors, designers, directors, etc. to Cincinnati to create meaningful and astounding performances. • Third, they have a bigger budget than other theatres • Fourth, they have a broad range when it comes to productions • Always something different

  10. In to the future: The subscription model is changing. Different perspectives on how to reach and interact with your audience. Different levels of evolvement before and after the shows. The use of social media.

  11. Career opportunities

  12. Cincinnati playhouse in the park career opportunities Acting internships Administration • Although they consider undergraduates, it is preferred that all who audition are recent mfa graduates. • Will work with professional actors and directors • All interns perform in the annual production: A Christmas carol (small or mediocre parts) • Opportunity to understudy • Participate in workshops with artistic staff and other professionals • Are assigned to running crews for a maximum of two main stage productions. (90% of intern’s time is spent acting) • Appear in a playhouse-organized new York city showcase • All majors can be considered for these positions because they all have something to contribute. • Christa Skiles: Marketing major and is now the marketing manager

  13. Training and Responsibilities • Training isn’t formalized in this industry, they send people to conferences and workshops but what really gains experience is performing those tasks required for the position. • Responsibilities depend on the field • For example: actors are to learn their lines, know the blocking routine and basically be part of the production. Specialized positions like carpentry might include building the set and making sure that the set is stable and safe for the actors to practice and perform on.

  14. The career field

  15. Main responsibilities admin Theatre • Marketing • Hr • PR • Company focused • Theater • Memorizing lines and blocked spots on stage • Performing • Being apart of the production

  17. Rewarding & Disagreeable aspects: • They love what they do. Employees can see how they contributed to a production and its success. Everyone makes a difference for the show whether they are in it directly or behind the scenes. • Long hours and busy days and they are non profit so not a lot of the staff is being paid. • But there are plenty of volunteers who offer to usher, prepare actor meals on long Saturdays, decorate the venue, and greeting guests.

  18. When acting you have to add a piece of yourself Johnny depp The End.
