Word PlayHouse is a program that provides students with visual impairments the opportunity to participate in classroom activities that focus on phonics, spelling, and phonemic awareness.
Word PlayHouse can be used to teach students with visual impairments some of the concepts and skills necessary for emergent, beginning, and struggling readers to become fluent readers.
Word PlayHouse Kit Includes: • 435 letter tiles in large print with braille overlay and velcro backing • Bi-fold felt work board for building words & manipulating letters and for letter storage • Storage binder • Teacher’s Guide
Letter Tiles include: • Vowels • Consonants • Blends • Diagraphs • Word endings • Word families • Contracted and uncontracted braille for some blends and word families
Vowels, vowel digraphs, and vowel diphthongs are printed on yellow tiles in black print and braille, and have a small open circle point symbol in upper left corner. The upper right corner has been notched to provide orientation for braille readers. Velcoin dots attach to back of each tile to secure to bi-fold felt board and for storage.
Consonants, consonant digraphs, and blends are printed on blue squares in black print and braille, and have a small vertical bar point symbol in upper left corner. Upper right corner has been notched to provide orientation for braille reader. Velcoin dots attach to back of each tile to secure to bi-fold board and for storage.
Word families and suffixes are printed on green tiles in black print and braille, and there are no tactile point symbols in upper left corner. The upper right corner has been notched to provide orientation for braille readers. Velcoin dots attach to back of each tile to secure to bi-fold board and for storage.
Contracted Braille Cards:Because all students are not introduced to contracted braille at same time, 2 different tiles are enclosed for some word families, suffixes, blends, diphthongs, and digraphs.
