MPSB: 2GEV project TE-EPC Group Meeting 26 of June 2009 Jean-Paul Burnet
MPSB: Actual configuration • Main problems: • Not enough voltage due to 5% tolerance on network and commutation voltage drop • Input transformer Irms above the limit of 1882A (2300A) • 18kV power quality already critical. Increase in power pulses will lead to unacceptable voltage fluctuations
MPSB: Actual configuration Alfa is fully opened but still the current does not rump-up as wanted • 2 Gev pulse Irms (1.2s) = 2300A Irms (1.2s) = 1700A • 1.4 Gev pulse Power pulse increase
MPSB: New main power supply • 3 container 0.25F as in POPS needed: • Nmode: Ecap=3*0.5*0.25*(4500^2-3000^2)=4.2MJ • Dmode: Ecap=2*0.5*0.25*(5000^2-3000^2)=4MJ 3 transformers 2500MVA and 3 rectifiers as those used in POPS needed • 12.5 MCHF Electrical part • 2.0 MCHF Infrastructure
MPSB: New main power supply • To verify: • A considerable increase of power is needed from the grid. Need to check if this is possible • Irms in the magnet also increase. Thermal problems? • One big problem is the high magnet resistivity that asks for high input power. Is it possible to think of replacing the magnets with less resistive one? • -30% resistance means 2 MW less, 1 transformer+AFE less, 20MCHF electricity saving over 10years.
