ANTHONY HOROWITZ • Storm breaker • Point blank • Skeleton key • Eagle strike • Scorpia • Ark angle • Snakehead • Crocodile tears
PROTAGONIST… • Alex Rider • he is 14 years old • fights bad guys and kicks ass • has no parents cause they both died while doing spy stuff • very athletic • Jack starbright • Alex's guardian • WOLF A.K.A. BEN • Alex’s comrade
Antagonist… • Major Winston Yu • head of Snakehead • loves Britain/ Britain made things • plans on causing mass destruction • Ash • Alex’s godfather • is a double agent • betrays Alex in the end • Anan Sukit • Tries to kill Alex at the star for beating his fighter
exposition Well at the beginning of the book Alex rider was sitting in the middle of the ocean because he just got back from space where he was on a different mission, and immediately was found and brought to Australia. He was kept at the army base camp. While there he got invited to go on a “picnic” but it was far from that. The army heard about him and wanted to test him and see if he was really as good as everyone said he was. So they acted like they went to a training zone, but all the sudden bombs and guns started going off. But he passed the test and made it out safe. After that whole thing the chief told him he was really sorry for what happen but would like Alex to help him in a mission. He also mentioned that the person he was going to work with was a guy named Ash, his godfather. Alex thought about it for awhile because he didn’t want to do another mission but he wanted to meet his godfather. In the end he said yes and he was back in the spy business.
Rising action He found out he was going to be an afghan refuge getting smuggled through Snakehead, an organization that deal with immigrants, drugs, and terrorism. So he met ash in bankcok and started the mission. the next day a women came a dressed them up like afghans and they were on there way. A little later they needed some papers to get them on a boat to there next destination but that’s where it all started. They made Alex come to this place to grab the papers and he had to come alone. But didn’t give him the papers at all, but instead they made him fight so steroid freak. And little did they know that Alex could actually fight! After a couple rounds the other guy got tired then that's when he attacked and finished him. Everyone started going crazy trying to kill Alex. Luckily he got out of there safe and even got the papers! Later they had to get on to another boat going back to Australia, but for two days! Also while they were on there they had to hide in trucks so no one would see them. Alex escaped and carefully wondered around the ship. He found out that the leader of the Snakehead Major Winston Yu had a huge bomb on board and was planning to blow it up in the next 48 hours. when they got to Australia he hid in a truck and made out off the ship!
climax He made it back to the army base and told them everything. Later that night they set off to an oil rid where the bomb was. They invaded it and started to take over. Alex and wolf (Ben) went down to the lower levels to deactivate the bomb, but when they got there they saw something they didn’t expect! Major Winston Yu and Ash were there about to set off the bomb. Ben shot ash and the Yu shot Ben. So now it was just Alex and the Yu. But just as he was about to kill Alex the other troops came in and killed Yu. Then Alex deactivated the bomb!
Falling action • They safely deactivated the bomb and started heading out. But they one of the troops pointed to ash and asked Alex “hey do you know this guy or should we just leave him?” and Alex just said no I have no clue who he is… and so they left and went back to base.
resolution • After they got back to base they had a little party, for Alex and everything he did and found out about the Snakehead! So now after 7 months of doing missions and everything he was back home and finally going to go back to school and get back to his normal life!
setting • The time period is the current day and year. But it is over a time period of 3 ½ weeks in December. • Place: first pacific ocean, then Australia, then Bangkok, then Australia again, then back to England where he lives.
themes • Spies • Terrorism • War/ Violence • I’m going to pick spies cause it is unique! Through out this whole book its all about being way sneaky and tricking people and being someone who your not to get what you want. Its about not being seen and still doing your job. And its also about being the person they want you to be so you get what you want!
Rating of the book/ social issue • I give this book a 10 out of 10! Because one I was in the book the whole time and I couldn’t put it down, it was exciting the whole time! And two cause I like the author and how he writes, I have read all the other books. • My social issue is going to be about Terrorism. In my book and even the other books in this series its all about some bad guy trying to corrupt or rule the world one way or another like putting a huge bomb under water to make a tsunami or putting an airborne virus in computer and selling them all over the world to little kid so the get infected and die.
Terrorism • “The unlawful use or threatened use of force or violence by a person or an organized group against people or property with the intention of intimidating or coercing societies or governments, often for ideological or political reasons.” • The main cause- • “dissatisfaction with a political or social system or policy, and an inability to change it through mainstream or non violent means”
Hostages Hijacking of airplanes Mail/package bombs Assassinations Car bombs Kidnappings Shootings Suicide bombers Examples of Terrorist Attacks
Just some days to remember…… • July 21, 1972 “Bloody Friday” • Kill 11, unjured 130 in Belast • December 17, 1973 • Attacking and hijacking at the rome airpor/ 33 people killed • 1985 • Italian crusie liner 700 hostages • May 1, 2001 • Attack on UN personal/ 320 people kidnapped, 5 killed • September 11, 2001 • Attack on US homeland/ all together( pentagon, WTC, and the hijacked planes) 3025 died that day
Reasons for Terrorism • Religious • Islamic extremism • Ethnic • hate crime(kkk) • Social • individual issues such as anti-abortion
Conclusion • Terrorism is justified because, according to definitions, every terrorist is also a freedom fighter. Freedom fighting can be justified as a means of evoking social or political change…
