Leadership • Leadership is about asking the hard questions and encouraging critical thought about what is happening I your school. • Creating trust and sound communication has been essential. • We’ve used different forms of review to try to validate what we can see. • Open to Learning Conversations are part of this.
Effective Pedagogy • We started last year looking closely at what we see as effective pedagogy as per the NZC page 35. • All staff were asked for their input under the NZC headings. • This generated a framework for our school pedagogy plan.
Process A large aspect of our pedagogy plan was related to teaching as inquiry. This has been the focus across the cluster to date. Reality: -Small school principals, where teaching is the majority of their time 0.6 or more in the classroom. -Need for support at the outset, not later when it gets ‘wobbly’. - Use of facilitator to help facilitate teacher inquiry. -Regular meetings (two per term) -Teachers own critical reflections and evidence to back them up. -High Trust, High Accountability, great communication.
Maori Success • Dived into KaHikitia • Real energy to shift community understandings and perceptions. • No correspondence entered into… • Strengthening partnerships • Whole school Marae visit • All children developed Pipihanga. • Increasing parental buy in.
Next Steps • Wrap up teacher inquiry projects for the year and determine next years inquiry from here. • Validate assessment data. • Re enter the portfolio concept. • Continue to work towards reporting alignment including National Standards and effective reporting.
