  1. Warm-up • Quiz Today • Discuss homework Show your work – set up of the equation Label answers – perimeter = unit, area = unit2 • Make sure this is done on quiz – you will have 30 minutes • Work on Area worksheet

  2. Surface Area and Nets 3D Figures and Names Calculating Surface Area of Figures Drawing Nets of Figures

  3. 3D Figures Prism Base - is the name of the figure triangular prism, base would be a triangle There will always be 2 congruent bases Lateral Faces – the sides of the figure, they will always be parallelograms, could be rectangles but depends on the figure Lateral faces depend on the number of sides of the base Some could be congruent, again depends on the base

  4. Surface Area The sum of the areas of all the bases and lateral faces of a 3D figure Find the area of each side and add them together Look for shortcuts, congruent sides depending on base

  5. Example Calculate the surface Area of each figure

  6. Surface Area If Prisms are right prisms there are some equation shortcuts, which means sides are rectangles Cube = 6s2 Rectangular Prism = 2 (wL + hL + wh) Regular Prism = 2b +Ph b is the area of the base p is perimeter of the base h is the height of the figure

  7. Nets The idea of unfolding a 3D figure and getting a 2D blueprint of how to make it There can be multiple ways to unfold a figure, you need to be able to see which ways this can happen Try to draw the net of a cube How many different ways can you Draw it

  8. Prism Redraw the prism and put measurements in correct location

  9. Homework Worksheet Due Friday On the back draw the net of question 6 and label all dimensions in the net and draw the net for a regular pentagonal prism
