Amanda Urquiza • Brooke Williams • Eric Moser • Andrew Siemens • Ryan Stelzer • Alex Yudkovitz The Team
Test capability and efficiency of solar panels; use as sole power source for next semester’s payload - how much power can be obtained - practicality of solar panels for near-space use - factors that help or hinder solar panel’s effectiveness • Better understanding of electronics, i.e. arduino, basic circuits, and programming • Videos for outreach events Fall 2013 Goals
Two carbon fiber cylinders • Smaller cylinder nested inside large cylinder • 25.5 cm tall • Small cylinder: 14.7 cm diameter • Large cylinder: 19.7 cm diameter • Two-part liquid foam • When mixed, solidifies into foam and expands • 2 lbs per cubic foot • Polystyrene foam • House internal components • Lexan Polycarbonate • Used to cap the top and bottom of payload • Keyswitches Structure
Sample Output: Time 00:00:45 x: 0 y: 0 z: 1.0 (g) altitude: 600 (m) voltage: 1.5 (v) Experiment
Controlled by Arduino Uno • Powered by a 9V battery • 2 cameras facing down • Hack HD • Muvi • Outreach Electronics
BMA 180 Accelerometer • C6840 Altimeter • OpenLog Data logger • Solar panel array • Silicon flexible solar Electronics
