Reciting vs Performing There is a BIG difference between performing a script and reciting a script. Reciting means just saying it from memory. It’s worth a “C” at best. Performing means your voice is softer or louder in certain parts, you vary the pace depending on the subject, you pause for emphasis, you have hand gestures and blocking associated with what you are saying. This will get you an “A” or a “B.”
Line by Line—start with the first line. Memorize it. Practice it so that you can say it fast, slow, dramatically . . . • Section by Section—divide your script into sections based on the topic and memorize each section • Key Words—Divide your script into small sections and highlight the first word of each section. Write those words on a sheet of paper and use them to help keep track of the flow of your script.
