X-TREME FACTS!!!OMG!! • The fungus species can infect an ant, take over its brain, and then kill the insect once the fungus moves to an ideal location for growing and spreading its spores. • A stalk of the fungus species Ophiocordycepscamponoti-balzani, grows out of an ant's head, and is located in the Brazilian Rainforest • All four known fungi species live in Brazil's Atlantic rain forest, which is changing due to climate change and deforestation, said study leader David Hughes, an entomologist at Penn State University. • There are suspected to be thousands more species that are undiscovered that we may not find because of rainforest destruction.
