  1. Myra & Amanda’s Final Presentation Reflections of our Tutorial and Hypermedia Projects for OLIT 525 Fall 2004 Fall 2004 Amanda & Myra

  2. Tutorial Objectives • To promote introspection/understanding of potential pet owners’ • motivation for wanting a pet, • limitations their lifestyle and home environment will place on pet ownership • expectations of pet care and time commitment. • To educate potential pet owners on specific characteristics and requirements associated with various pets. Fall 2004 Amanda & Myra

  3. Tutorial • Instructivist/Cognitive Principles • Primarily presents information • Hybrid linear/non-linear Fall 2004 Amanda & Myra

  4. Tutorial – Cont’d • Behaviorist Philosophy • Feedback/response on tests • Constructivist Philosophy • Allowing the learner to evaluate their own lifestyle and environment to determine the appropriate pet for them Fall 2004 Amanda & Myra

  5. Hypermedia Objectives • Use an interactive and entertaining approach to teach children what it takes to successfully own a pet dog. • Teach responsibilities and requirements associated with the ownership of dogs in general. Fall 2004 Amanda & Myra

  6. Hypermedia • Constructivist Philosophy • Minimal • Price Match Game • ‘Where you live’ interaction • Interactive Instruction • Using interaction and hypermedia to promote active learning (motivation, curiosity, control, attention) Fall 2004 Amanda & Myra

  7. Preferred Methodology“Tutorial” • More useful and relevant information • Clear presentation and objectives • Consistent format • Navigation was more clear Fall 2004 Amanda & Myra

  8. Things we would do differently… Tutorial: • Use GIF’s & JPEG’s for saving the pictures • Consolidate some quizzes • Make responses to quiz answers more interactive Fall 2004 Amanda & Myra

  9. Things we would do differently cont. Hypermedia: • Would use better interactive tools • Flash • Fireworks • We don’t feel that we have the advanced skills to accomplish what we can visualize Fall 2004 Amanda & Myra

  10. Most Pleased With Tutorial: We really liked the end result of the entire project! Hypermedia: Finding ways to incorporate interactivity with our learning objectives/topics (i.e. the price match to teach the cost of ownership, the maze to engage the learner in lessons on losing your dog and preventing loss) Fall 2004 Amanda & Myra

  11. Summary Hypermedia seems to have a greater appeal to people, but we feel that combining the information from the tutorial and the interactivity and entertainment of the hypermedia would help people engage in learning. It is a shame to see information overlooked due to the attractiveness of the hypermedia items. Fall 2004 Amanda & Myra
