  2. What is a fluid? • A substance that flows • Takes the form of the container it’s in • Can be gas/liquid with/without solid particles in suspension

  3. Archimedes’ Principle Buoyant force acting on an object = Weight of water displaced by object

  4. Pascal’s Principle • Pressure applied to a fluid in a closed container is transmitted equally in all directions • Examples: hydraulic systems, pneumatic systems

  5. Bernoulli’s Principle • For fluids: • High speed  Low Pressure • Low Speed  High Pressure • Explains why an airplane flies
